Cannot close about dialog

Hi,

When i start plasma-mediacenter (kubuntu 12.10), I get the about dialog listing names of the devs. However, pressing the close button does not cause the dialog to close.

I also tried changing AboutPMC.qml and changed dialog.accept() to dialog.close() but that didn't help either.

What else can I try?

Thanks,

Ken

weird

Thats really unexpected, maybe something is wrong with your Plasma Components installation.

Can you share the terminal output when you start pmc? You can either * Create a bug report at https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=plasma-mediacenter or * ping ksinny or Shaan7 on #plasma on freenode IRC

Thanks

Yes, it was probably older version of plasma components. I re-installed all required dependencies and it works now.

Nice work.

Q: What kind of files is the 'Other' category (the plasma cashew) supposed to show?

Cannot get rid of intro screen

Hi,

I am unable to get rid of the intro screen listing the names of the devs. The close button does not work (as expected) when pressed. Tried sliding the intro window away, pressed Esc ... no response.

"QtMultimediaKit" is mentioned as "optional" but it failed to run if build without it.

below output is how

below output is how "QtMultimediaKit" is listed as option when it it found not to be present at configure time.

I installed qtmobility, rebuild everything and it now works.

The good: i like the animation and transition. I run it with "--disable-opengl " option and the transition are pretty smooth. I like the UI too, its very responsible and doesnt look "busy" and its clean.

The bad: The whole application can not be used using a keyboard only or a mouse only. This is not good.

For example, when i am at the video section, i can not seem to be able to access the "places" area with a keyboard and i can not scroll left or right to access more video entries with the mouse, i have to use left key and right key on the keyboard.

Is there any plans to support online content other that flick photos?

Some sort of a mean to manage rss feeds to allow streaming video content from online websites will be sweet.

I am impressed by the work thats done so far, will start following this project very closely.

There will be other online support!

Thanks for trying and telling the good and bad thing about it :)

Its true that PMC doesn't support well keyboard navigation right now but we have plan for it in future . Mouse works fine and you can scroll left and right without help of keyboard. You just need to press left mouse button and flick it.

We are working on other online services too. Right now picasa backend is in progress in other branch which is almost done. Will merge it soon into master. Later we will add youtube plugin as well !

Package 'QtMultimediaKit' not found

I know that this blog regards fedora/ubuntu but perhaps you can help me.

I'm tryng to compile plasma-mediacenter in Chakra; I installed qt-mobility but cmake fails with the message "Package 'QtMultimediaKit' not found". I checked /usr/include and there is QtMultimediaKit folder (with all other folders from qt-mobility). /usr/lib seems ok: contains all mobility libraries.

Which could be the problem? A missing FindQtMultimediaKit.cmake file? qt-mobility src package has no .cmake files. Ubuntu/Fedora adopt custom .cmake files? In that case, can you point me to those packages so I can extract Find*.cmake? (I used packages.ubuntu.com and packages files listing feature but without luck).

Very thanks.

Maybe only cmake

Well something is wrong with the way PMC's cmake is locating QtMultimediaKit, we're trying to fix this.

Meanwhile, its worthwile noticing that the cmake warning will be shown even when you have QtMultimediaKit installed. Ignore and build it anyway, if you really have it PMC will work fine.

Install instruction

Hi :)

Thanks for your impressive work, this looks great. It reminds me a bit of Sonys XMBC used in the PS3, which is imo a good and easy-to-use/understand concept.

Personally I would not recommend that people use a sudo make install, since this will give conflicts with packaged versions (if available later, which I hope) and might lead to hard-to-debug problems due to mismatching libraries and such.

If possible, a suitable .deb or .rpm  should be built and then installed.

But this was just a sidenote, keep up the good work :)

True!

yeah, we shouldn't use sudo for make install but currently I find it easier so that more people can give a try. It would be really nice if someone can do packaging for differnt distros. I will try to contact them as well :)

PS, you can install PMC on

PS, you can install PMC on Chakra from Git as easily as:

ccr -S plasma-mediacenter-git

Cool!

This is really nice!

Shiny with a few bumps

It's looking really nice, especially with all the QML animations and the use of images everywhere which I like better than the way XBMC often just gives a text list.

I didn't see any way of navigating past page one of results without going into an individual item. For example, if I go into Flickr images, it will show me the first page of images, but no way to jump to the second page until I actually open an image.

There were also some oddities, such as missing lines behind the volume / seek sliders that are in your screenshots, and I couldn't get any media (except photos) to actually play. I didn't see any relevant looking errors in Konsole, but I'm sure these will get fixed in due time. Feel free to ask me if I can help with any info gathering.

I love though, that the very first time you open up PMC that it's already populated with your Videos / Audio / Images without even having to add source folders beforehand. Win! :D
